Why NC Dental U

 

Our Dental Assistant Program provides an introduction to dentistry and establishes fundamentals of the dental assisting profession. Our Program also allows you to explore dental specialties including Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry and Oral Surgery. 

Course Objectives

 

Upon successful completion of this program, students will:

Understand the role of the Dental Assistant

N

Understand Dental/Oral Anatomy, Tooth Numbering System

N

Take X-rays using DIGITAL imaging equipment, including NOMAD technology

N

Maintain patient records including an introduction to Practice Management Software

N

Monitor Nitrous Oxide during patient care

N

Take Dental Impressions and Model Trimming

N

Understand sterilization procedures

N

Develop communication skills for use with patients and coworkers.

N

Understand dental insurance.

N

Understand equipment maintenance.

N

Use the computer to promote efficiency.

N

Develop employability skills and strategies

What is a Dental Assistant?

 

Enjoy the rewards of working with a dentist to create bright and healthy smiles! The essential skills you learn in this program enable you to gain the edge you need to be a Dental Assistant (DAI) or Administrative Dental Assistant.

Dental assistants are the foundation to any successful dental practice. They provide necessary support to the Dentist in the clinical setting during most dental procedures.

Dental Assistants perform many tasks, including, but not limited to the following*:

Prepare patients for treatments and procedures

Sterilize and organize dental instruments

N

Assist the dentist during procedures

N

Instruct patients in proper oral hygiene techniques

N

Take X-rays using

N

Maintain patient records

N

Schedule patient appointments

N

Manage patient billing and payment processing

Dental Assistants can work in a private dental office, public health clinic, or military clinic.  There are also opportunities for Dental Assistants to work in sales, equipment repair or education!

Our Dental Assistant students are covered under a school owned Professional Liability insurance policy, even while on your externship at another office.
